London Based

About us

Thirty years ago, two British defenders of Latin American rights created a specialized bookshop in Spanish on Latin America. The idea was to convert the library into a Latin American Resource Center and in the year 1980, it became an agreement of Latin American Human Rights and Solidarity groups. This was the origin of the name CARILA - "Campaign against Repression in Latin America".

In 1983, Carila established a free service of advice and interpretation in response to the needs of the Latin American community in London. In 1985, after two years of experience in the provision of these services, what is today is Carila - Group for the Welfare of Latin Americans.

In 1988, the Latin American Human Rights and Solidarity groups formed as independent organizations and the bookstore closed. We kept the name of Carila and in 1992, we became a charitable organization.
